Ingredients

Scale
  • 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup mashed very ripe bananas (from 23 bananas)
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons natural unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar until light. Beat in eggs one at a time.
  4. Mix in the dry ingredients, then add mashed bananas, sour cream, and vanilla.
  5. Melt chocolate, stir in cocoa powder, then combine with one cup of the batter.
  6. Alternate spooning the plain and chocolate batters into the loaf pan. Swirl with a knife.
  7. Bake for 70 minutes. Cool before serving.

Notes

For the best marble effect, do not overmix when swirling the batters. Use very ripe bananas for maximum sweetness and moisture.
