Bread and Cheeses
- 1 loaf crusty bread (French, sourdough, or Italian)
- 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 0.5 cups crumbled feta cheese optional for Mediterranean twist
- 0.5 cups grated Parmesan cheese
Butter and Seasonings
- 0.5 cups unsalted butter melted
- 4 cloves garlic minced
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano or za’atar Mediterranean herb mix
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
Garnish
- chopped olives optional
- sun-dried tomatoes optional
- fresh basil optional
Preparation Steps
Preheat oven to 350 °F (175 °C).
With a serrated knife, cut the bread in a crosshatch or diagonal pattern about 1" apart—only slice down ¾ of the way so the loaf stays intact.
In a bowl, mix the melted butter, minced garlic, oregano/za’atar, parsley, salt, and pepper until combined.
Gently pull apart the bread as you drizzle the garlic-herb butter deep into all the cuts.
Stuff the mozzarella, feta (if using), and Parmesan into the cracks and between slices of the loaf.
Wrap the stuffed loaf loosely in foil and place it on a baking sheet.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, then unwrap and bake an additional 5-7 minutes until the cheese is melted and the top is golden and slightly crisp.
Remove from oven, garnish with olives or basil if desired, and serve warm for pulling apart.
